Victoria, BC...Another Beautiful Sunny.....Whoops!

by Philip Illingworth

Sunday morning was just beautiful - clear blue skies and a sun so warm, my office was almost too hot to work in.

Did we take the dogs for a walk then.....no, why would we?  We were waiting for this:

Not only did we go out in the flurries, we waited until it was at its' worst.  Fortunately for us, it didn't last too long.

Blue Bridge in Victoria

by Philip Illingworth

At long last, they have started work on the Blue Bridge in Victoria.  They are in the process of removing the rail portion.  The vehicle portion will remain as is until the new bridge is completed.  This will take about 3 years and many, many millions of dollars.

For those of you that don't reside in Victoria, on bordering municipalities, this has been a hotly debated topic for some time.  The battle was refurbishment verses replacement.  According to the Times Colonist, the crane being used in the largest crane on the West Coast.

707 Linden Avenue, Victoria BC. Open Houses This Weekend.

by Philip Illingworth

Drop by this weekend to take a look at two beautiful character conversions.  Both units B and C are open Saturday and Sunday, 25 and 26 February from 1PM-3PM.

These units marry the best of old and new...many features of an old stately home combined with modern elements.  Toss in the walkability factor, and it's as good as it gets!

Hope to see you there!

Is There A New Dishwasher In My Future?

by Philip Illingworth

My wife, Janet, has complained bitterly about our dishwasher.  She hates it, as the most quick cycle is almost 1 1/2 hours long.  As much as she hated the dishwasher, she was also unable to justify purchasing a new one when this one worked just fine.

I fear her prayers have been answered...the dishwasher is making a very weird noise.  Should it actually quit, I wonder how long she will do the dishes by hand?  Somehow, I'm guessing not long!

A 63 Year Old Man

by Philip Illingworth

Can a 63 year old man, who goes on one ski trip a year keep up with his 35 year old daughter, a major fitness buff?

Sure, if you don't mind not being able to negotiate stairs for a couple of days!

Below, myself and my oldest daughter (and child) Meghan.  Meg lives in Squamish and was attending a medical conference in Whistler the same weekend I had the good fortune to be invited to a friends' house in Whistler.

We had House made BBQ Pork, Snow and Peas with Beef, Shrimp Egg Foo Yong, Noodles with Beef in Black Pepper Sauce and Scallop Fried Rice.  Delicious!

Victoria DFH Real Estate Bake Sale

by Philip Illingworth

Dave Philps, a fellow DFH realtor traveled to Honduras on 30 January with the “Friends of Honduras” charity (www.friendsofhonduras.org) to spend 2 weeks providing some assistance to the children in a small village in the mountains near the capital of Tegucigalpa.  Dave has paid all his own expenses.

To put a bit of perspective on how far a dollar goes in Honduras, a tax deductible donation of $20 will provide a meal for 200 children….a $400 donation will feed those 200 children a meal on each school day for a month.

Another realtor, Ally Guevin organized a fundraising bake sale to help Dave.  With my help, my wife, Janet, helped out with the baking.  Below is a photo of the baking we she did - I actually tried to take credit at work,  but it didn't fly!  My wife does copious amounts of baking for the SPCA Christmas Bake Sale, so the amount of baking below is actually miniscule by comparison.
